Building Capacity
A key priority of the Whitefeather Forest Initiative is to build skills among youth of Pikangikum to prepare them to take advantage of new employment opportunities being created by the Whitefeather Forest Initiative. We have developed a comprehensive Five Year Training Plan to guide us in our training efforts. This plan includes a range of training opportunities including training-on-the-job and classroom-based programs. This will be harmonized with the vision of our Elders to ensure that Pikangikum youth are also thoroughly immersed in our Indigenous Knowledge tradition in their learning contexts.
Another key priority is to bring our Indigenous Knowledge to the forefront in our planning, resource management and enterprise development activities, and so build the understanding of our customary stewardship techniques among our non-aboriginal partners. This is also central to our efforts to build capacity.
