Building Capacity:
Training on the Job Program

It is a principle of the Whitefeather Forest Initiative that all activities and programs maximize employment opportunities to members of Pikangikum First Nation.
Our young people must be given the opportunity to do whatever they are able to do or can learn to do. To date, our work to develop the initiative has provided much needed jobs and work experience in the areas of:
- Biophysical data collection field work
- Indigenous Knowledge research (both field research and office-based projects) in which youth learn from Elders and partner researchers
- GIS (computer mapping)
As our Initiative develops we will continue to seek opportunities for Training-On-the-Job and work experience related to college courses. We are currently seeking opportunities to begin training in woodlands harvesting. This training will be provided by our business partners, including Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, and the woodlands enterprise, Noopimiing Anokeewin, that has been developed at Wabigoon.
