Education
We are interested in participating in educational dialogue and cooperation associated with the Whitefeather Forest Initiative. We want to bring our knowledge tradition into dialogue and shared learning with the non-native society in Ontario and Canada. We are already bringing our Indigenous Knowledge tradition into the heart of our planning process for the Whitefeather Forest Initiative, and we want to create more formal arrangements including development of curriculum based on Indigenous Knowledge and teaching practice for use in college settings.
We have entered into a partnership with Ontario Parks to pursue the development of the establishment of an Indigenous Knowledge Teaching Centre associated with Woodland Caribou Park. Our agreement highlights learning but also includes a cooperative framework to guide research and the presentation and interpretation of our Ojibway culture in our Traditional Territories by Pikangikum people. This cooperative project will also be associated with protected areas that will be established within the Whitefeather Forest Planning Area. This agreement is an expression of the desire of our Elders to bring our skills and knowledge to the rest of the world.
At the same time, we want to provide learning opportunities for our youth so that they can take advantage of new economic opportunities presented by the Whitefeather Forest Initiative. To that end we are developing an educational partnership with Sault College to deliver its Aboriginal Resource Technician Program in our community. This will also involve a technology partnership to enable program delivery.
