Whitefeather Forest Management Corporation
Whitefeather Forest Management Corporation was established in 1998 by Pikangikum First Nation. The mandate of the Corporation is to undertake planning and development of the Whitefeather Forest Initiative on behalf of the First Nation. Whitefeather Forest Management Corporation is wholly owned by Pikangikum First Nation.
This corporation undertakes work in the following areas:
- Indigenous Knowledge documentation
- GIS
- Transcription and translation – Ojibway syllabics/English
- Coordination of Community-Based Land Use Planning activities
- Dialogue with outside parties
- Management of technical services related to planning
- Enterprise planning and partnership development
The corporation maintains a staff in Pikangikum including:
- President and Initiative Manager
- Research co-ordinator
- Senior translator
- Community researcher
- GIS/IT technician
- Office administrator
Although the corporation is primarily focussed on tasks related to developing the Whitefeather Forest Initiative, it can provide services to others in the following areas:
- Sharing skills and knowledge related to Community-Based Land Use Planning
- Translation and transcription related to resource issues
- Co-ordination and support for research activities related to the Whitefeather Forest Initiative
